Foster Youth Initiative

TOSOB's kids fund-raised $10,000 to allow 40 Multnomah County and Clackamas County foster kids the opportunity to partake in the following four events: an evening of bowling & arcade games at Big Al's, a basketball clinic and pizza dinner, a college experience (including campus tour, lecture from university professor, football game, and more!) at Oregon State University, and a Thanksgiving service event in addition to a Thanksgiving dinner.

In addition to the incredible fun had by all participants, those four experiences were huge successes by introducing some of the foster kids to a college campus for the first time, having many of the foster kids participate in a Thanksgiving service event for the first time, and allowing TOSOB kids and foster kids to simply forge new friendships.

In the spring of 2015, TOSOB was introduced to Bridge Meadows, a unique multi-generational community located in the Portsmouth neighborhood of North Portland where adoptive parents, foster children, and elders (those over 55) find a true home built with love and the shared vision of a better tomorrow.

In June, after planning by both sides, TOSOB traveled to Bridge Meadows to spend an afternoon together full of sharing, pizza, and basketball instruction for their kids. It turned out to be another great success, and what added to the evening was that several foster kids from the first series of events in 2014 were able to join!

In August of 2015, TOSOB teamed up with NFL Hall of Famer, Ronnie Lott, to conduct a fun outdoor event benefitting Multnomah County foster kids and kids at the St. Mary's Home for Boys. Later that month, TOSOB assisted DHS with a back-to-school clothing and school supply drive that also directly benefited foster youth in Oregon.

The Other Side of Basketball is looking forward to growing its existing relationship with local foster youth!
